Resource Allocation and ERP Integration in Automated Manufacturing

Calvary Robotics · Project Server · SyteLine integration

Overview

Calvary Robotics, a world leader in the manufacturing of automated assembly equipment, needed its project delivery process brought in line with scheduling best practice. For an organization whose success depends on the efficiency of its project management office, that change had an immediate effect on its project management systems. By combining people, process and technology rather than installing a tool, EPMA raised overall program efficiency and established unified, collaborative processes that grow with the organization through shifting production challenges.

parts to the solution — people, process and technology — instead of a PPM tool on its own

The key issues

  • A rising number of projects, and rising project complexity, was affecting operational readiness.
  • The existing PPM tool captured cost and time, but did not allow accurate resource allocation projections.
  • Managing a large volume of projects was difficult without those projections.
  • No unified or collaborative PPM solution across the organization.
  • No visibility into current resource allocation, and no simple way to project future allocation.
  • Any solution had to work in unison with the SyteLine ERP already in place.
  • No standard metrics for measuring performance, which left resource workload invisible and made status reporting harder.

Our solutions

  • In-depth analysis of the existing PPM processes and tools before any recommendation was made.
  • A holistic approach built on people, process and technology, which the organization agreed would stand up to multiple complex projects better than a tool alone.
  • Collaboration with resource and project managers to streamline their existing processes.
  • SyteLine integrated with Microsoft Project Server, so the existing time-capturing process carried through to actual and estimated completion in the schedule.
  • Resource management made both proactive and reactive across the organization.
  • Project performance measurement, with visibility and control across all projects.
  • Identification, mitigation and communication of issues and risks that could affect project success.

Value added

  • A centralized location for all resources and the information attached to them.
  • Resource availability visible to project and resource managers, who could plan future hiring against it.
  • Internal and client status reports generated automatically.
  • Project schedules built and edited from the desktop or online, with simple and complex schedules communicated the same way.
  • A streamlined project delivery process and improved on-time delivery of projects.
  • Improved resource utilization and forecasting.
  • Increased customer satisfaction, and an increase in repeat orders.
